Well after viewing this video i realized that everything that the students said, were true. People bring laptops to classes but aren't really typing anything dealing with class work. We spend most of our time multitasking when it comes down to school, personal life, and work. Being full time college student takes mostly all the time in your life. We pay more attention to the things that dont matter, like iPods, networking websites, television, etc. These things will still be here when we get out of school. College is such a stressful time for any one because of the work load that is given to us.
Some of the things that professors teach us, has nothing to do with our careers that are trying to be pursued. For instance a music major has to take a p.e. course just because its a requirement for the school. This is ridiculous! I believe that if its not within my major i shouldnt have to take the course. Majority of the time the things being taught are irrelevant.
When viewing Michael Welsh's, youtube video, A Vision of Students Today I felt relieved. It was like finally someone speaking out about all these things I always think about. We do multitask when it comes down to doing every thing we have to do. We don't get alot of sleep because either we're studying are doing homework. We do spend alot of money on books that we don't use. We sit in class and have to listen to stuff that don't have anything to do with anything we're doing. Somethings the professors teach doesn't have anything to do with our major. But somethings you just have to do when your in college.
I totally agree with what octavia.blanco said because we do spend most of our time multitasking when it comes down to school, personal life, work and some of the things that professors teach us, has nothing to do with our careers that are trying to be pursued.
After viewing this video I feel it opened my eyes. It gave me a view of how as college students are abusing our technology world. A lot of us spend way more time texting than we do thinking. In convocation a few weeks ago we were asked to do a survey of how we spend our time based on a week. After completing my survey I noticed I spend more than 75% of my time on my computer and on facebook.
In most college classes most of the students are stressed. They often are physically there but mentally somewhere else. This makes it hard for the student to focus on there work and take adequate notes. It's always best to sit towards the front of the class and focused. A lot of things we are learning now will come back to haunt us in the end. We need to stay focused so we can be ready for the real world because it'll be here soon.
I agree with Jasmine. Personally books are entirely to expensive. Most of the books we have we will never open. I also agree with Octavia a lot of the classes we are taking are not geared toward our success in our careers and it's a waste of time.
After viewing the video I realized everything the students said was true. The statements the students had on the video described me. I do spend most of my time on technology. When it is time to study I try to listen to music. Sometimes when I’m doing home work I get on face book. I am a lucky student, and sometimes I feel I may take education for granted, we all do.
Watching this video gives me a different perspective on life. This shows me that I focus on the things that are not important. I feel some of the requirements that we have to complete to graduate do not make sense. I believe this is why sometimes I do not focus like I should. Technology is useful, but it can be distracting. We just have to know our limits, remember what is important.
after watching the michael wesch youtube video I kind thought about the things that was being explained in the video about balancing yoiur time more wisely. also how the use of technology would probrally be more better and a faster way to use it. such as doing classwork, homework, and research papers. not only that, but also having time to balance your time such as for styuding time, and research time. on ways it can effect your ability to things such as time for your self, being with friends, and also having communication time one on one with professors or instructors to see what else is there that I would need to be more focus and ways to adapt to things. are you can probpraly talk to a school adviser to see what ways you can balance out class time and work time.
I agree with Katheryn B. I have noticed when I sit in the front of the class I seem to concentrate more on class. I also agree with Jasmine, books are expensive, and students can not afford to buy books they will not use. Now, some teachers will not let you in class without your book.
Viewing the video made me think" wow, i'm not the only one thinking like this". I strongly agree with what was being discussed in the video, all the things mentioned highlighted the various areas of trouble that a college student goes through. For example spending money on some stuff we never use, the amount of time we get to just relax and breath, the amount of reading assignments and essays we have to write, all the money for our college education that we have to pay, etc.
the video was well put together and sent a powerful message that would make any student or teacher stop and think. It made me rethink some of them things I'm doing while I'm here at college and how i can prevent them or better myself. Some things i can't change like the number of reading assignments and essays that we get from some teachers but i can try a little bit and take some time off going on facebook or hanging out with friends all the time.
,so after watching the video I understand what was being sayed and after watching the video it kind of made me think about changing some of my strategies to technology and how it is useful, but in a way it still can be effective in a way and how a lot of students are destracted and not being able to focus on things,so much, but thats what college is a bussines where you are going to face some up's and downs, but you still have to strive and move on.
After viewing the video, I feel there is strengths and weaknesses a bout the video. The weaknesses are not having technology are more paper (cutting of trees), less resources (websites), and more time in writing on paper. Technology helps students move more on a faster pace. In the video, student have showed why technology shouldn’t be around but having the advantage of technology helps teachers move on a faster pace, especially with 115 students in one class. Another thing, the students have showed were the lap tops usage in the classroom but not doing class assignments. Others students were not getting enough sleep. I feel if you don’t spend that much time on cell phones or lap tops then you’ll be able to get more sleep. The strengths of this video are to show today’s generation or my generation how we really do misuse technology and school. It shows how we don’t use our time, resources, and education seriously. Many people today I feel take don’t take advantage of what good resources that are provided. About 50 years ago, technology was not great and they had to take longer on class assignments because everything had to be hand writing. We misuse education or school. Many students weren’t able to attend because of race or gender and yet as it showed in the video they are on different websites rather than doing class work.
I agree with David the video really have you thinking about everything of today’s students. And technology is a better to make assignments get done faster. I also do feel that the students shouldn't have misused the technology either.
I also agree with octavia a lot of the things that was done in the video is true. Also I agree with the professors telling us many of things that have nothing to do with our careers. I also have to say that many its okay to have different aaspect of other things because then you'll have an open mind about things.

i agree with Octavia Blanco college is a very stressful time in our lives so at times we let our selves get distracted with little things to take our minds of it for a little while, like going on Facebook or listening to music. i also agree with Jasmine H. we spend way to much money on books that sometimes we don't even need for a class or on information that is so simple that a teacher could easily make copies of distribute it to the class...
After viewing this video, I would have to agree with Octavia. You never realize the problem until it's put in front of your face. Millions of students have trouble their first year of college because they're not use to the environment. Most of the time, yes we do spend a lot of times on things that will never help us and sometimes you stay up all night studying when you have a 8 o'clock class the next morning. Everyone is a multitasker between class, homework/studying, working, and some still stay at home and help their parents out. A lot of the things that the students were saying is true and i do agree with them.
I also relate to a lot of what the video was explaining. It kinda makes you think about all the things you need to do. College is not all about partys and fun times, its hard work also a lot of money and time.
I agree with Katheryn B. Because in college classes most of the students are stressed. They often are physically there but mentally somewhere else. It does make it hard for the student to focus on there work and take adequate notes.
After viewing the video I totally agree with everything that they was saying in it. There was a part where they were filming the class room of an average class room and they had writtings on the seat that stated "if students learn what they do why are they sitting here. I think that is so true. I liked how they had the different students put up there thoughs of class, like one person held up there laptop and said that he brings his laptop to class eveyday but never takes notes or do class work i also think that is true because it sometimes just feels like your professor is just rambling on and it has nothing to with what you major is
I totally agree with kim, because half of the things we purchase for school we dont even use like some of text books i still have like two books that are not even opened and i'm pretty sure im not use them anytime soon. I also agree with alannia we sometimes as college students do focus on the wrongs things like facebook, twitter, myspace, etc and we are not balancing our school work and free time carefully
after watching the Micheal Wescl video I fell very bad and trying to think about this problem.because this is surprise for me.Class is not place to listen to music or watching pictures on Facebook. This video on youtube say how one generation in 21st milenium have technology for work and how it can help with you educuation.
I agree with this video and think education and a diploma is important for much better tomorrow.Of course students need to learn every day and have tehnology for it.
I like this video alot! This video really express the feelings we teens share in college. Most classes are overpacked, and that tends to make the learning process more difficult than others. It also stresses the debt we teens share, are most teens shae in college.Almost every teen takes out a loan or two loans to attend college. Another factor about this video is the laptops that are being brought to class. Some college students do bring laptops to class at some schools and dont participate in school related activities.
In this video one student wrote about how much money he spends on books. I agree with him because I to believe the price on school books or materials are ridicolous and outrageous. Another student implyed that he/she does not use the school books at all. I also find that rude because we should'nt have to spend so much money on books for class and not use them at all. After viewing this video I think everyone or anybody can get a clear picture about how some colleges are and what actually goes on in most of the college classes.
Im agreeing with Octavia because I also feel like when spend most of our college life multitasking. Some students find themselves overwhelmed and stressed out because of multitasking.
The video was touching. It had expressed so real statements. At first I was thinking it was weird. When i was reading the statements,I notice that they were true. I could relate to mostly all of them. That was scarey. After watching the video it made me feel like there is a change need to be made. I shouldn't be a part of that group of people. I need to better myself and actually work on a better future. It was that video that I will be able to say opened my eyes! It is truely a shame that those statements was so true. Now my eyes are opened to the real world though!
After fewer the video I relized that some of the things that was shown was true. I could relate to most of them. What was said about multi tasking is so true. Its like you have to do everything at once. This video really opened my eyes. It showed the real world. It opened my eyes about alot of things.
I liked the video alot. Most of the classes we are in are over packed and its hard to even undersatnd whats going on. It expresses what us teens go through on a everyday bases. With money, books and etc. It basically opened my eyes to see the world a whole new way.
I liked the video alot.It really expresses the life a college students. I think all of the signs the students where putting up im dealing with most of those problems. One was the one of being in a packed class. I think its very difficult being in a big class and trying to learn the best way you can.But its hard cause you can never have a face to face or close relationship with your teacher being in a class with 200 other students.
Also one of the students said something about the amount of money paid on school books. I think its really bad that we have to pay almost 200 dollars on books that we hardly use or use for half the year. They should have a way we could rent books that would make it better for us the students with low money income.
"Today's child is bewildered when he enters the 19th century enviorment that still characterizes the educational establishment where information is scarce but ordered and structured by fragmented, classified patterns subjects, and schedules." The first thing introduced in the video was the different seats with writing on the back of them. that instantly made me think of how that could be part of the vision. maybe if we were doing hands on learning instead of staring at the back of your classmate's seat we would digest the information differently. huge class sizs, unegaged teachers, and textbooks themselves were some of the implied problems. it was said that multi taskng is one of the things that we have to do and i agree completely, as it is what i am doing right now. Something that we have to do everyday. At the end it said the benifits of the textboard. it made me think even firther of how the whole video implied technology is the future of education. is it the future is what i wonder, when people said all they do is facebook througout classes. What would engage students, meanwhile helping them learn. It seams there should be some type of breakthrough involving technology, and field studies in the major headed.
i agree with edward, and how he mentions that the debt we all share is such a big concern. I hadn't imagined that i would be in so much debt in college.
Appalled? No. Surprised? A little. Ready to seek a way to make sure that we as a student body won’t end up like this? Absolutely. When viewing this marvelous piece of footage A Vision of Students Today, it helped to confirm some statistics that I was already knowledgeable of students at a University. Before coming to Dillard I was involved in a research project on seeking out the core crisis in the educational system in Oakland, and through that research we found that a lot of the students have similar dilemmas such as those publicized on the pieces of paper that students held up in the video. in the video. Some key points were teachers not knowing students name, overcrowded classrooms, paying for overpriced textbooks that you don’t even use. I feel that this video presents a lot of relevant information that we as students go through at Dillard, and I plead the fifth that I am one of those students. Today’s educational system has in some ways handicapped students rather than molding them into scholars. A lot of high schools teach students at a remedial level only to send us off to college where we take up the same remedial courses just to try and catch, when most of us fail even then. This video was a good way to remind me of the failing educational system and gave me a boost to seek out any resources needed in order to make sure I don’t let my education fly right past me.
Side-Note: With all the key points raised I would like to know where the students of color were in the video? Would these numbers increase or decrease? Just think about it.
I agree with Shei-Duh, she made a few very important key points she stated:
"It seems there should be some type of breakthrough involving technology, and field studies in the major headed."
This is very intriguing point she made because our generation is very technology savvy. Since it had found that students are spending so much time on these social networks, maybe institutions should incorporate exercises and lectures that utilize technology.
I strongly agree with Damarcusshaw when stating the price of books. Many students have voiced their opinion about the absurd book prices that some instructors don't even use. To have to spend $150 or more for a book is rididculous. But I suppose that's part of the college life, agian I repeat I suppose.
This video is quite relavant to the average college student at a four year college or institution. We are forced to live on the go and to multitask. Like how we get on facebook so much,do homework, maintain a job, join clubs, and have a social life. Another accurate piece of information from this video is how the average student spends thousands of dollars on books that we use for a very limited time if we even use them at all. That is a waist of money and resources when we could just find the information online. Especially with all the technology we have today.
This video was a reminder of what we do to reach the American definition of success. And also to gain the skills we will need in our future careers . Because we will need to be able to do all these things later in our lives as well as the present.
I agree with she duh and edward there are so many issues with how students are approaching the college life style but there are also problems with how some instutions are run. but over all thats life and it wont change unless we make the change.
This video just clarified what an average student goes through on the daily basis to obtain an education and social life in college. In the video it showed how people prioritized their lives around studies and campus life. Also watching this video i see that going to Dillard also makes us fortunate because we dont have such large classes like one of the students showed. It also made me realize how much money that we spend on books that we barely use if we eve use them. Then we're required to bring the books to class and 80% of the time we dont even open the book up.
This video just proved that technology is a useful source for gaining knowledge. Just this video alone taught us something. Most teachers believe that YouTube, Facebook, and other community websites are used for nonsense when it can actually be used to inform and educate in a positive way.
I agree with Edward because we share almost all the same views toward the video and college in general. The cost factor is one of the biggest things that run kids away from going to college and i agree that it is entirely too high.
This viedo was very informative on how college really is. Most people say college is this and that and really when it comes down to it college is college where you came to get your education. I just dont like it when they make you take classes that your may or may not use in your major. I understand where they are coming from when they say if only the walls can talk. The walls cant talk but students can and they say whatever they may feel at the time. I think the viedo was very good and if i could i would put myself in it.
I totally agree with kim on how the viedo was viewed. Some things i can't change like the number of reading assignments and essays that we get from some teachers but i can try a little bit and take some time off going on facebook or hanging out with friends all the time. Because college students will be college students
I agree with Octavia viewes the video. We do spend most of our time multitasking when it comes down to school, personal life, work and finaial problems in college.
The video A Vision of Students Today by Michael Wesch was a real eye opener. The video caught my attention and did not bore me. I was interested in what was going to be showed next. The students in the video wrote some statements on their pieces of paper that I agree with. The video shows how most college students really think and how we feel. We have so much to do and it seems as if we don't have enough time to finish everything. Technology is one of the things than can help us and hurt us. It can help us get things done faster and also distract us from getting work done. We sometimes waste time doing nothing when we can do our homework but some of the things we are being told to do may not help us.
I agree with sweetie smilie when she say that there are some changes to be made. It is up to us to make the changes but change is hard and we really have to be focused. Speaking for myself I am not as focused as I should be and sometimes I wonder if I really care.
After watching this video it truly tells and shows what a regular college freshman like myself, really goes throught there everyday life trying to fit everything they have to do and love to do in 24 hours. The video relates to so many of us college students oday. And i can so agree wih mostly everything that was shown in the video.
i agree with Cassie becuase it is relavent average college student who is trying to go to school n get there education but at the same time enjoy there life outside of college.
After watching the video, A Vision Of Students Today, I really realized that college students today as myself really do not understand how important college is and how to take it very seriously towards your career. As I was watching the video i saw many students had wrote signs and and other situations which they thought was wrong in college and how students take advantage of their opportunity in class. How many students just come to class and just sit and sleep without taking notes or any kind of participation at all. I also noticed how the students in the video bought expensive books and did not use them.
Some colleges have a numerous number of students in there class, for say so Dillard does not have a big crowd in the classrooms as seen in the video, which iam very happy. This video really influenced me to take my career very seriously and not for granted

What would engage students, meanwhile helping them learn? It seems there should be some type of breakthrough involving technology, and field studies in the major headed. (REVISED EDITION)
THIS VIDEO WAS AWEEESOME!. WOOOWWW!!! IT'S LIKE PEOPLE OUTSIDE OF COLLEGE CAN GET A CHANCE TO SEE WHAT'S REALLY GOING ON. MOST IMPORTANTLY,THESE ISSUES BARELY GET DISCUSSED, AND UNIVERSITIES/COLLEGES DONT WANT TO DISCUSS THEM AT ALL. EVERYTHING THAT WAS STATED/WRITTEN DOWN ON THE STUDENTS NOTEBOOKS/PAPERS WERE TRUE. STUDENTS WERE GIVEN THE OPPORTUNITY TO BE HEARD.
I just showed my best friend this video and she is starting college next year. Her comments on the video was that it made her open her eyes and realize its a lot more than what people that do not attend college see, but she repects it and I would have to agree with her.
Well after viewing this video i realized that everything that the students said, were true. People bring laptops to classes but aren't really typing anything dealing with class work.
ReplyDeleteI also relate to a lot of what the video was explaining. It kinda makes you think about all the things you need to do. College is not all about partys and fun times, its hard work also a lot of money and time.
ReplyDeleteI agree with Katheryn B. Because in college classes most of the students are stressed. They often are physically there but mentally somewhere else. It does make it hard for the student to focus on there work and take adequate notes.
ReplyDeleteAfter viewing the video I totally agree with everything that they was saying in it. There was a part where they were filming the class room of an average class room and they had writtings on the seat that stated "if students learn what they do why are they sitting here. I think that is so true.
ReplyDeleteI liked how they had the different students put up there thoughs of class, like one person held up there laptop and said that he brings his laptop to class eveyday but never takes notes or do class work i also think that is true because it sometimes just feels like your professor is just rambling on and it has nothing to with what you major is
I totally agree with kim, because half of the things we purchase for school we dont even use like some of text books i still have like two books that are not even opened and i'm pretty sure im not use them anytime soon.
ReplyDeleteI also agree with alannia we sometimes as college students do focus on the wrongs things like facebook, twitter, myspace, etc and we are not balancing our school work and free time carefully
after watching the Micheal Wescl video I fell very bad and trying to think about this problem.because this is surprise for me.Class is not place to listen to music or watching pictures on Facebook. This video on youtube say how one generation in 21st milenium have technology for work and how it can help with you educuation.
ReplyDeleteI agree with this video and think education and a diploma is important for much better tomorrow.Of course students need to learn every day and have tehnology for it.
i agree like KIM we pay to much money for text books.
ReplyDeleteI like this video alot!
ReplyDeleteIn this video one student wrote about how much money he spends on books.
ReplyDeleteThe video was touching. It had expressed so real statements. At first I was thinking it was weird. When i was reading the statements,I notice that they were true. I could relate to mostly all of them. That was scarey.
ReplyDeleteAfter watching the video it made me feel like there is a change need to be made.
ReplyDeleteI liked the video alot. Most of the classes we are in are over packed and its hard to even undersatnd whats going on. It expresses what us teens go through on a everyday bases. With money, books and etc. It basically opened my eyes to see the world a whole new way.
I agree with octavia. It really did express what she was saying, about muti tsking.
ReplyDeleteI also agree with Jasmine H. because most students are streeed out in college.
ReplyDeleteWell i agree with sweet smilie because the group of people you hang around with influence you and the way you act.
ReplyDeletei agree with edward
ReplyDeleteI liked the video alot.It really expresses the life a college students. I think all of the signs the students where putting up im dealing with most of those problems. One was the one of being in a packed class. I think its very difficult being in a big class and trying to learn the best way you can.But its hard cause you can never have a face to face or close relationship with your teacher being in a class with 200 other students.
ReplyDeleteAlso one of the students said something about the amount of money paid on school books. I think its really bad that we have to pay almost 200 dollars on books that we hardly use or use for half the year. They should have a way we could rent books that would make it better for us the students with low money income.
i agree with edward with the problem with the book money
ReplyDelete"Today's child is bewildered when he enters the 19th century enviorment that still characterizes the educational establishment where information is scarce but ordered and structured by fragmented, classified patterns subjects, and schedules."
ReplyDeleteThe first thing introduced in the video was the different seats with writing on the back of them. that instantly made me think of how that could be part of the vision. maybe if we were doing hands on learning instead of staring at the back of your classmate's seat we would digest the information differently. huge class sizs, unegaged teachers, and textbooks themselves were some of the implied problems. it was said that multi taskng is one of the things that we have to do and i agree completely, as it is what i am doing right now.
ReplyDeletei agree with octavia about some things that we are being taught is irrelevent and not geared toward out majors.
ReplyDeleteAppalled? No. Surprised?
ReplyDeleteI feel that this video presents a lot of relevant information that we as students go through at Dillard, and I plead the fifth that I am one of those students.

ReplyDeleteI agree with Shei-Duh, she made a few very important key points she stated:
ReplyDelete"It seems there should be some type of breakthrough involving technology, and field studies in the major headed."
ReplyDeleteThis video is quite relavant to the average
ReplyDeletecollege student at a four year college or institution.
ReplyDeleteThis video just clarified what an average student goes through on the daily basis to obtain an education and social life in college.
ReplyDeleteThis video just proved that technology is a useful source for gaining knowledge.
ReplyDeleteThis viedo was very informative on how college really is.
ReplyDeleteI totally agree with kim on how the viedo was viewed. Some things i can't change like the number of reading assignments and essays that we get from some teachers but i can try a little bit and take some time off going on facebook or hanging out with friends all the time. Because college students will be college students
ReplyDeleteI agree with Octavia viewes the video. We do spend most of our time multitasking when it comes down to school, personal life, work and finaial problems in college.
ReplyDeleteThe video A Vision of Students Today by Michael Wesch was a real eye opener. The video caught my attention and did not bore me. I was interested in what was going to be showed next. The students in the video wrote some statements on their pieces of paper that I agree with. The video shows how most college students really think and how we feel.
ReplyDeleteWe have so much to do and it seems as if we don't have enough time to finish everything.
ReplyDeleteI agree with Kim, after watching the video it does make you stop and think.
ReplyDeleteAfter watching this video it truly tells and shows what a regular college freshman like myself, really goes throught there everyday life trying to fit everything they have to do and love to do in 24 hours. The video relates to so many of us college students oday. And i can so agree wih mostly everything that was shown in the video.
ReplyDeletei agree with Cassie becuase it is relavent average college student who is trying to go to school n get there education but at the same time enjoy there life outside of college.
ReplyDeleteAfter watching the video, A Vision Of Students Today, I really realized that college students today as myself really do not understand how important college is and how to take it very seriously towards your career.
ReplyDeleteSome colleges have a numerous number of students in there class, for say so Dillard does not have a big crowd in the classrooms as seen in the video, which iam very happy. This video really influenced me to take my career very seriously and not for granted
i agree with edward about the book expensive. Because buying books are expensive money wise.
ReplyDeletei agree with jasmine because we do to much talking and playing in class and wonder why we are failing or don't know the the answer the teacher asked
ReplyDelete"Today's child is bewildered when he enters the 19th century environment that still characterizes the educational establishment where information is scarce but ordered and structured by fragmented, classified patterns subjects, and schedules."

Maybe if we were doing hands on learning instead of staring at the back of your classmate's seat we would digest the information differently. Huge class sizes, unengaged teachers, and textbooks themselves were some of the implied problems. it was said that multi tasking is one of the things that we have to do and I agree completely, as it is what i am doing right now. Something that we have to do every day.
At the end it said the benefits of the text board. it made me think even further of how the whole video implied technology is the future of education. is it the future is what i wonder, when people said all they do is face book throughout classes.
ReplyDeleteI AGREE WIT KECHA COLEMAN,AND TEQUEILA TOO. WE HAVE THE SAME PERSPECTIVE(S) ABOUT THE VIDEO.
ReplyDeleteI just showed my best friend this video and she is starting college next year. Her comments on the video was that it made her open her eyes and realize its a lot more than what people that do not attend college see, but she repects it and I would have to agree with her.
